Thomas Lewis (PawPaw) Korsmo, 85 of Temple Texas passed away on Tuesday May 2nd at his home. He had suffered from Parkinson's disease for several years and this past February had a bad fall that resulted in several broken vertebrae. He was born on January 10th, 1938, in Akron, Ohio to parents Howard and Helen Korsmo.
Thomas moved to the Netherlands after WWII in 1946 through 1948. His family moved back to the states and settled in Waco, TX where his father came to run the General Tire factory. Thomas went to Waco High where he met his future wife to be Kay Hamby and graduated in 1956. Thomas and Kay went to North Texas State University and married on June 7th, 1958. They graduated from NTSU in May of 1960 just weeks after the birth of their oldest son Samuel J on May 6th. On December 28th, 1962, they had their 2nd son Scott Lewis. Thomas worked for General Tire from 1968 to 1974 before going into business for himself with Kay as his partner from 1974-1982. On August 30th of 1973 they had their 3rd son Howard Eric. PawPaw enjoyed spending time sitting on his front porch swing along side Kay relaxing and entertaining the neighbors who would frequently stop by for a drink and good conservation. He worked at Scott & White hospital as a patient escort, which he loved until his retirement in 1997. After retirement his joy was splitting time between his 7 grandchildren and traveling the world with Kay, mainly on cruises. Beyond the 7 grandchildren PawPaw welcomed 2 great grandchildren into the world. His other passion was watching and following the Temple Wildcat football team. Thomas and Kay loved cheering on their "Cats." PawPaw enjoyed helping others in any way he could, no matter the chore.
Thomas leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 65 years Kay, three sons and their spouses Sam and Julie of Alaska, Scott and Tristen of Temple, and Eric and Rachel of Temple. He leaves 7 grandchildren Chase and wife Stacy Korsmo, Kalia and husband Travis Parker, Zackary and wife Karen Korsmo, Rafn Korsmo, Hunter Korsmo and spouse Cayman Mitchell, Hayden Korsmo and Heidi Korsmo. He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren Everett and Rowan. He will also be greatly missed by his sister, Nedra McGrath.
No services are planned at this time.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with these arrangements.
