Thomas Stanley Landauer
Sunrise, April 8, 1950 – Sunset, October 11, 2023
Tom passed peacefully in his sleep and at his favorite place – in his West Henrietta home of over 50 years.
Tom had wonderful memories of growing up in his hometown of Albion, NY, where he spent his days exploring the Erie Canal by bike and sailing on Lake Ontario. He told stories of his childhood and reflected upon these cherished memories frequently. Tom graduated from Albion High School in 1968 and the State University of New York at Morrisville in 1971. He then moved to Rochester, NY, where he established his roots and started his career at Kodak. He received a degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1991.
Tom was known for his quick wit, humor, and endless supply of dad jokes. He was a fountain of information and was proud to be called "Mr. Fix-It" and the "Dumb Fact Guy." Tom willingly shared his knowledge and experience with others; this knowledge will continue to live though those of us who have been fortunate to receive his gift.
Golf was Tom's sport of choice. He met Kerry Lou, his wife of 38 years, in the Kodak Golf League. They were paired by chance and went on to win first place in the league that year and in years to follow. Tom later discovered that he played golf better with one hand than with two! Tom and Kerry Lou built a loving home together. They shared a passion for gardening, building a landscape ripe with fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and flower beds. They transformed their property into a wildlife sanctuary and bird habitat that Tom was immensely proud of.
Music was one of Tom's great passions that he shared with his daughter, Kira, who became a fan of her dad's generation of music. They attended concerts together, including Eric Clapton, Rush, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, the Rolling Stones, the Moody Blues, and many more. Tom was a history buff, and Kira inherited his passion for the Civil War and World War II. Tom, Kerry Lou, and Kira had many traveling adventures together, including the continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe. They also enjoyed watching Jeopardy together every night. Kira was Tom's pride and joy. No one has ever been a prouder father and Kira definitely carries the best of him. He was the BEST Mr. Mom.
Tom had cherished memories of family who departed before him: his mother, Martha; his father, Donald; and his sister, Mary Ann. His spirit continues to live on through his wife, Kerry Lou; daughter, Kira (Cambridge, MA); brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Susan (Ann Arbor, MI); and his many cousins and friends that he collected throughout his life, including his dear friends Art and Suzy Wilcox and Jenny Coveney.
Birds were one of Tom's great interests in his later years. He took much pleasure in birdwatching. Should you wish to honor him with a donation, please consider the National Audubon Society (www.audubon.org).
Give your loved ones a hug, tell a silly joke, and do a good deed.
Tom, we miss you and you will forever be in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life for Tom will be held in Spring 2024. Details to come.
