Phillip Paul Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, LLC - Medina on Jan. 28, 2026.
Phillip Wayne Paul packed up his tackle box for the last time on January 20, 2026, trading the river banks and lakes of New York for the crystal seas of Heaven's shores on a fishing trip that never ends.

Phillip was born April 16, 1968 in Rochester, NY. He graduated Albion High School in 1987 and began a lifelong career in carpentry, owning his own business. He had skilled, steady and talented hands. Phil enjoyed bringing everything from homes to barns and even special crafts picked by his grandkids to life. One favorite is a beautiful ornate wooden table he built with his daughter for his granddaughters to play at. He was recently employed at Rosenal Hardware in Albion/Lyndonville and had turned each coworker into a close friend.

He is lovingly survived and remembered by his mother, Beverly (Stanton) Paul, his two children Tiffany (Michael) Schroeder and Dillon Paul, three granddaughters who adored him, Marlaina, Lillianna, and Seraphina and his sister, Wendy (John) Lewis, and a brother, Cameron Paul. Also surviving are his nephews Ryan (Miranda), Larry (Chelsey) and Jacob, niece Shelby and many great nieces and nephews. Phillip was predeceased by his father, Barry Paul and adored sister, Loretta Vick. Phillip was a passionate outdoorsman. He lived for early mornings in the tree stand and finding the latest honey hole to fish. He loved sharing his vast knowledge of all things outdoors with his children and granddaughters. Cherished are fond memories of processing deer and fish in his kitchen. Recently, though he wouldn't want to admit it, his daughter had beat him in a timed race to see who could skin his latest catch the fastest.... He may have let her win.

Phillip deeply loved horses. Whether it was a simple trot through the woods or competing in western games, he considered the saddle a second home since he was young. He truly lived up to his name, with Phillip meaning "horse lover". He leaves behind many trophies and award ribbons.

Phillip truly had the 'need for speed' and adventure all this life. Whether on his boat, his '72 Chevelle, his motorcycle, or mudding on the UTV, he lived for thrill and loved taking others along with him. Phillip loved family nights at the race track, eating salt potatoes and cheering on our racing family members. One thing for certain Phil loved to hear from his children and granddaughters was, "Come on! Go faster!".

Phillip was a kind-hearted soul who gave back to his community, even serving at food distribution centers. In his last years, he had faithfully been attending Albion Free Methodist Church and was helping the church with construction and painting projects. He spoke often about Pastor Jason and his beloved friends he had made there. Some of these cherished friends included his neighbors, Bob and Rose Butler. Bob became like a second father to Phil after his move to Lime Kiln Road. They shared many memories over food, football, faith and the woods on their property. The most special might have been the memories Phil made with their sweet granddaughter, Krystal, who affectionately called Phil "Uncle Philly Cheesesteak". Krystal and and her Uncle Philly Cheesesteak spent a lot of time in the woods, building ground forts and watching for deer. The Butler's weren't just neighbors or friends; They had become precious family.

Lastly, but certainly first in Phillip's heart, his granddaughters. If you knew Phillip, you knew of his immense love for his granddaughters. They experienced a side of Phil few got to know. From dining room crafts to buying them a miniature pony, Grandpa Phil lived to make his granddaughters smile. He proudly displayed their creations for him on all the walls throughout his home. Their first fish were caught on Grandpa Phil's boat. They enjoyed camping, tubing and late night hunts for night crawlers. Grandpa Phil often ditched the manly outdoorsman he was to show up for his grandgirls, together baking rolly-poleys, making Saturday morning pancakes and creating jewelry. Lillianna (11) would like to mention enjoying her grandpa taking her to the mall and spoiling her. Marlaina (14) would like to share that her grandfather took her and her sisters fishing all the time. He had taught Marla how to hook the boat trailer to his truck, how to drive the boat and how to cast a line. Marla cherishes memories of post-fishing trip orange creamsicles and watching The Sandlot on repeat, like Phil did with his own children growing up. She fondly shares that grandpa looked for any way to spoil her and her sisters. Even if they weren't home, he would drop off loaves of homemade banana bread and write them handwritten letters as pen pals. He affectionately would answer their phone calls and texts, "Hey buddy", the same greeting he gave his own kids growing up.

Phillip will be remembered by his never-quit mentality, his resilience in life, his love of the simple things, and his kind spirit towards others who suffered. We will hold the sounds of his laughter until we hear it again, over some venison jerky and a camp fire. Under his rugged exterior was a soft childlike heart. In his latest time earth-side he became a man of faith, even reaching out to childhood friends to talk about Jesus. Anyone who knew Phil would say he would give you the shirt off his own back without a second thought. He will be truly missed until we meet him again. Until then, we are left imagining how many fish he has reeled in and what his new boat is named. Knowing Phil, his new boat likely dons the same name and sticker he came up with his children many years ago - The Fishinator.

We look forward to celebrating Phil's life with you all on February 7th, 3pm at Albion Free Methodist Church, 25 South Platt Street Albion NY, 14411.
