Maher-Melbourne Funeral HomeThomas Anthony Liederbach, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Tom passionately pursued life to its fullest as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a successful engineer and executive, an inveterate traveler, horseman, athlete, and sports fan. He gave his time and talents generously to the Catholic Church and his community. Tom’s ability to share his talents and experiences - in conjunction with his keen sense of humor - endeared him to a broad group of friends for whom he was grateful.
Tom was born May 10, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Theodore and Anne (nee Pejsa) Liederbach. He attended St. Ann’s elementary school in Cleveland Heights, graduated from Cathedral Latin High School and completed his education at the Case Institute of Technology (now CWRU) where he received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and his master’s in business.
Tom joined the Diamond Shamrock and then the Electrode Corporation (now Eltech) as a driven engineer. He enjoyed early success in a career that took him to all parts of the globe and formed enduring friendships. Under his leadership the company thrived and he retired as its President in 1995.
Tom had an abundance of interests with a boundless capacity to pursue and perfect them. These interests included athletics (marathon / distance running, cycling, sailing, and skiing), and he was an engaged Cleveland sports fan - especially at the athletic events in which his children and grandchildren participated. Tom was an actor and president of the Gates Mills Players theatre group, helped found and serve as president of the Gates Mills Land Conservancy, a longtime volunteer at the Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center, the Point Chautauqua Association, enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and his Woodstock Farms, and hosting family gatherings on the lake in Chautauqua, NY.
None was more important than the love of his life, Ginny. Tom married Virginia Clyne on September 14, 1957, in University Heights, Ohio and enjoyed 52 years of marriage together including travel to Rehoboth Beach, “The Farm” in Austria, and across the backroads of Europe. We know he looks forward to continuing their journey together.
Tom is survived by his children Anne Kampf (Bill), Phillip (Cady), Kevin (Karen), David (Sue), and Brian (Sarah); he was the grandfather and beloved “Dupa” of Elizabeth (Nate Dvorak), William, Peter (Mary), and Katherine Kampf, Blaise (Elizabeth), Tommy, William, Kristen (Brian) Shimko, Andrew, Kelley, Lauren, Erik, Bo and Cade Liederbach; the great-grandfather of Henry and Eleanor Dvorak, Luke Shimko, Blaise Thomas, Sonny, and Lila Liederbach.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years Virginia (Clyne) Liederbach; his twin brother, Theodore “Ted” Liederbach, and his sisters, Sister Mary Lynn, SND and Jean (Liederbach) Goebel.
Private Interment will take place at Gates Mills North Cemetery with his wife Virginia. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO GATHER FOR MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL 10 am SATURDAY, JANUARY 3, 2026 AT ST.
