Obituary
Thomas Hubert Logelin, loving husband, father, friend and Papa, went to his heavenly reward on June 13, 2018 at his home in Green Valley, AZ. Tom was born on August 14, 1938 in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, the second son of Matthew and Adelaide Ehalt Logelin. He grew up working part-time in his parent's general purpose farm store, attended St.John's Prep School, graduated from Waconia High, and completed an electronics program at DeVry Institute in Chicago, IL.
Tom married Phyllis Cooper after graduation, and together they raised five children in St. Bonifacius while he worked in the family business, The St. Boni Farm Store. During their nearly fifty year marriage, Tom was a leader in his community. While his children attended school, Tom was active on the Waconia, MN school board serving as president. In 1971 he became a charter member of the local Lions Club assuming several leadership roles including president. In recognition of his efforts, he received the Lion's International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for service. He was an involved parishioner in the St. Boniface Catholic Church, a member and president of the church council. He led the guitar choir there for many years. He was active in the Knights of Columbus where he held the position of Grand Knight. During his business career, he was honored as dealer of the year by his multi-state buying group for marketplace leadership and dedicated service to his customers and community.
Seventy-three years after Tom's parents started the family business, Tom closed the store and retired. He traveled to every state in the country, and began to spend winters in Green Valley, AZ. There he met Barbara Fones whom he married in September of 2012. They moved to Green Valley permanently in 2014 where together they enjoyed bicycling, swimming, fishing, dancing, water aerobics, travel, and a glass of brandy when the mountains turned pink.
Tom was an honest, hard working, faith-filled man who loved nature, good conversation with friends, his precious family, and life. With his quick wit, Tom could tell a story for any occasion. He enjoyed singing, strumming his guitar, and playing cards with family. He wrote several Christian gospel songs. Tom had an easy laugh, a tender heart, and a fierce loyalty to those he loved. He lived a life of service and donated his body to biomedical advancement.
Tom leaves behind his loving wife Barbara, his son Paul in Lester Prairie, MN; and his daughters Theresa (Keith) Wehrman of Rochester, MN; Melissa (Britt) Buscho of Green Valley, AZ; Nina (Robert) Hysick in Westmont, IL; and Tracy Logelin of Green Valley. He is survived by two stepchildren: Carolyn Schlueter of San Francisco, CA and Jeff (Emily Haber) Schlueter of Santa Cruz, CA. Tom's younger (twin) siblings Jon (Jeanne) Logelin of Le Seuer, MN and JoAnn (Marvin) Rademacher of Waconia, MN also survive him. Tom was a proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren Carey Buscho (Kipp) Walberg of Maple Grove, MN; Nathan Wehrman of Los Angeles, CA; Madelin Buscho of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Emily Wehrman in Rochester, MN; Thomas and Michael Hysick in Westmont, IL. He also leaves behind his three great-grandchildren: Beck and Merritt Walberg, and Ava Wehrman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Don, and his first wife Phyllis. His in-laws, Ted and Melba Fones, also predeceased him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place later at St. Mary's of the Purification in Marystown, MN.
