Thomas Glen Lorenz, a man of enduring spirit, courage, and generosity, passed away on November 29, 2025, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 74. Born on August 2, 1951, in Houston, Texas, Thomas lived a life shaped by service, community, and an unwavering dedication to others—values that will continue to echo through the lives he touched.

A proud professional firefighter, Thomas served the Houston Fire Department for 14 years, demonstrating bravery and resilience every time he stepped into harm’s way. His devotion to protecting others did not end with his tenure in Houston; he later continued his calling as a volunteer firefighter in Fulshear, a testament to his steadfast commitment to his community. Beyond firefighting, Thomas also served as a bus driver for Brazos ISD and Royal ISD, retiring for the final time in December 2024. Through these roles, he forged meaningful connections with countless students, families, and colleagues.

On April 26, 1975, Thomas married the love of his life, Carolyn, in a ceremony in Houston. Their marriage was a partnership marked by warmth, loyalty, and deep affection—a bond that remained unbroken until Carolyn’s passing. The memories they created together remain a cherished part of his legacy.

Thomas embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. A devoted railroad enthusiast, he spent countless hours creating intricate model railroad setups that reflected both creativity and precision. He was often seen lending a hand at public events or at his church, where he became known for his knack for Christmas lights and his willingness to climb any ladder needed. His faith was central to his life, and he poured his energy into outreach and service through Katy Methodist, Fulshear Methodist, and River Bend Baptist Churches, where he supported both the Youth Choir and Worship Ministries.

His volunteer efforts extended to the Boy Scouts of America, where he discovered a deep passion for mentorship and leadership. His roles in the Sam Houston Council Annual Scout Fair, the Boy Scouts Jamboree, and as a Cub Scout Den Leader demonstrated his belief in guiding young people and enriching the community around him.

Thomas was also known for his gift of conversation—able to fill a room with stories, humor, and genuine connection. Anyone who had the pleasure of speaking with him knew there would never be a dull or quiet moment. His presence brought life, laughter, and warmth wherever he went.

Above all, Thomas was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his children, Patrick Lorenz and his wife Vernisa, Genie Graham, and Glenda Merritt and her husband Sean, as well as his grandchildren, Joseph, Haley, and Mason, who were constant sources of pride and joy. He is survived by his brothers, Ronald Lorenz and Donald Lorenz, and Donald’s wife, Sandy. In his passing, he reunites with his beloved wife, Carolyn, and his parents, Leander Lorenz and Johnylee Little Lorenz.
