Mr. Thomas E. "Shorty Tom" Martin

Mr. Thomas E. Martin, 79, affectionately known as Tom or Shorty among his friends and family, passed from this life August 6, 2025, in Columbus, Indiana at his home. Tom was born on October 21, 1945, to Culver and Thelma Martin in Greensburg, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Ivy Martin; children, Barbara Ann Martin of Florida, Amy (Bruce Roberts) Scroghan of Columbus and Brandy Bell of Alabama; grandchildren, Travis Bell, Brittni (Issac) Hamner, Brianna Scholar and Bryce Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Daisy, Nicole, Dayton, Evander, Levi, Rylynn, Kynslee, and Everlee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Thomas Milton Kendrick and Christa Kendrick; and sister-in-law, Tessy Hutto.
Tom's professional life was marked by nearly four decades of committed service at Cummins Engine Company, establishing himself as a valued colleague and a dedicated worker.
An ardent lover of literature, Tom rarely left home without a book, finding solace and adventure in the pages of Tom Clancy novels. His enthusiasm for classic cars was unmistakable, often seen marveling at the splendor of a meticulously maintained vintage automobile. Tom's passion for bowling led him to travel across the United States with his team, sharing the joy of the sport and companionship with others. Behind the lens of a camera, he found great pleasure in capturing life's moments, creatively expressing himself through photography and video editing.
Yet, nothing brought him more contentment than the precious hours spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His laughter and warmth during these times became the precious memories that will continue to echo in their hearts.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, with Evan Guse officiating. Family and Friends may gather for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, cremation will take place.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
