A very much loved husband, father, grandfather, Thomas Mavrikis, 88 of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully with his family and friends present at his side.
He was born November 30, 1937 in Perista, Greece and carried his Greek heritage with pride throughout his life. He was sent to America at the age of 13 to avoid the war in Greece. He was only allowed to bring $10 with him on his journey. He spent his money on a watch and candy. By the time he made it to New York he had nothing to his name.
He attended Broad Ripple High School. He worked at Blue Bird Pie Company for a few years and then worked at Ford Motor Company. He worked at Ford Motor Company from 1960 to 2000. He always mentioned that Ford Motor Company was very good to him. In 2001 Ford Motor Company asked him to come out of retirement for an additional year. He was the first in Ford Motor Company in history to ever be asked to come out of retirement. In 1986, he started a new venture with his family and another close family friend and opened a Greek restaurant in Union Station.
In 1963, he went back to Greece and reunited with his family, met and married his pride and joy, Marina. They had two loving sons Gus and John. In 2009, his first and only grandchild was born that was also named Thomas in his honor. He was so very proud of his grandson and loved him dearly. He took immense pride of watching his grandson grow.
He is survived by his two sons Gus and John, his cherished grandson, Thomas, and his daughter-in-law Andriana.
Thomas is proceeded in death by his lovely wife, Marina.
He was an amazing individual that always laughed, joked and told great stories. He never met a stranger and never held grudges.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family and close friends. He will forever be remembered with love. May his memory be cherished.
Visitation will be held on February 23, 2026 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral 3500 West 106th Street Carmel, Indiana 46032 from 9 am to 11 am with funeral services beginning at 11 am followed by a burial at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fishers, Indiana.
May his memory be eternal.
