Thomas G. Mayne

Thomas G. Mayne, an amazing gentleman with a caring heart, left this world in the early hours of Thursday morning. Equipped with a positive aura that was nearly visible, Tom was widely known as a man who could fix or sell anything. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Delores Stimac and the late Walter Mayne, Tom was one of five children. His parents moved to Three Mile Lake in Paw Paw, Michigan when he was young. Tom soon found himself with a plethora of friends who would inevitably tag along with him on various outdoor adventures. Fun was to be had in any way, shape or form, and this extended well beyond childhood.

As Tom grew, he started tinkering with small engines, riding offroad vehicles, and other miscellaneous automobiles. Tom would partake in racing events to enjoy the speed and hurdles. Once he started riding snowmobiles, a new passion emerged: the faster they went, the faster he wanted to make them go. This love for tweaking machines and hunting for more speed became a lifelong phenomena. Tom could always be found with a smile on his face, and a beverage in his hand. Ultimately, Tom was a true outdoorsman, if he was not riding or fixing something, he was hunting. He greatly enjoyed rabbit and deer hunting, and would never miss a good day on the lake.

One of Tom's biggest passions was being a Volunteer Firefighter. He made many calls, day or night, and was ready to haul the hoses into a burning building or run a fire engine. After joining the Lawrence Fire Department and becoming a Captain, he moved to Paw Paw and joined the Paw Paw Fire Department in which he was an active member.

A 1932 Ford Truck is remembered as another one of Tom's many passions, which he and his father, Walter, refurbished and took pride in through taking it to vintage car shows.

His greatest joy came in August of 2002 with the birth of his son Joshua, by his then wife, Madra. Josh was the light of Tom's life. Tom was always willing to discuss stories of his son. They enjoyed time together Up North, watching football or working on sleds at home. Tom was his most caring supporter, as he would always find time to watch Josh at his many athletic events. There was an unmistakable smile on Tom's face while witnessing his son play football and baseball or excel in academics.

Tom never met a stranger… because they would spontaneously become friends. After that friendship began, Tom was always there for them and their family.

He had two godchildren, Nick Cross and Jacob Reynolds. Still, he loved his nieces and nephews very much: Kayla Coombs, David Tapper (Ashley), Jill VanOrman (Scott), Hunter Tapper (Marissa), Sarah Stadel (Mitch), Wally Mayne (Devin), Stephanie Cross, Carter Mayne, Mason Mayne, Cody Reynolds, Mikayla Reynolds, and Kari Key.

Tom is survived by his companion, Loretta Albin, whom he deeply cared for and loved along with her children Kyle Stafford, Tonya Stafford, Robert Berends (Vanessa), Todd Walters, Kristin Walters, Bryan Albin, and Mason Albin; his furry best friends: Walter and Wilson; his mother: Delores Stimac (Joe), brothers: Walter Mayne and Joseph Mayne (Patricia), sisters: Sandra Tapper and Susan Cross, and his son: Joshua Mayne.

Tom's selflessness and larger than life personality will be dearly missed.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a memorial service starting at 12:00 pm at Adams Funeral Home; Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Immediately following will be a reception held at the Paw Paw Fire Department. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Paw Paw Fire Department.
