Thomas Edward "Tom" McConnell

Thomas "Tom" Edward McConnell, 89, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at UPMC – WM.

Born in Cumberland on October 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Anthony Edward and Mildred Pauline (Coughenour) McConnell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Shawn Whalen.

Tom was a 1955 graduate of Fort Hill High School. After graduation, enlisted in the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne until 1958. After Kelly Springfield Tires, Tom served and retired as the bailiff for District Court Judge Paul J. Stakem.

Tom was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. His life revolved around the Knights of Columbus #586, where he had been the Past Grand Knight, and Alhambra Wamba Caravan 89, where he had been the Past Grand Commander.

Tom is survived by his wife, Charlene (Sibley) McConnell; children, Cynthia (McConnell) Whalen, and Mark McConnell and wife Dawn; grandchildren, Matthew Kirby and wife Ashton, Michael Kirby and fiancée Krissa Tellef, Madigan and Kellen McConnell, and Aiden and Riley Williams; great-grandson, Gunnar Kirby; sister, Maryann (McConnell) Lippert and husband Tom; brother-in-law, Charles Sibley, Jr. and significant other Dixie Pownall; nieces, Kim Bolinger and husband Andrew, Marcy Aufderheide and husband Greg; and nephews, Greg Lippert and Brian Lippert and wife Kirsten.

In accordance with Tom's wishes, there will a graveside service held at a later date.
