Longtime Carmi Educator and Businessman, Thomas G. Mears, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Cedarhurst Senior Living of Highland in Highland, IL. He was born on January 30, 1947 in Carmi the son of Dallas and Velma Maxine (Wilson) Mears. Tom taught 5th grade in the Carmi White County School District for 35 years along with coaching basketball, baseball and football. He also operated Mears Market on Fifth St for 42 years.
Tom is survived by his two sons, John (Laura) Mears of Arnold, MO and David Mears of St. Jacob, IL; four grandchildren; and a brother, Bill (Sandy) Mears of Evansville, IN.
Funeral Services and Burial for Thomas G. Mears will be private. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Carmi White County Booster Club, 800 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821 who is assisting the family with arrangements.
