Thomas E. Messmore

Beloved family patriarch Thomas E. Messmore passed away on March 30, 2024, in Naples, FL at the age of 78. Born to parents Ellison and Margaret Messmore, Tom grew up in Fairmont, WV with his brother, Scott. He enjoyed becoming an Eagle Scout.
Tom earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University, followed by an MBA from Harvard University, as well as the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. He had an impressive career in finance and insurance, specializing in investment and risk management for firms including State Street Bank, Keystone, Travelers, UBS, and Zurich, which ultimately took him overseas to live in Zurich, Switzerland for five years.
Tom lived a full life with his wife, Sharon, and their children and grandchildren. He loved skiing (snow and water), tennis, computer programming, and following the stock market. He relished spending time at his lake house in New Hampshire along with family, friends, and his German shepherd, treating them to countless boat rides-motor, row, sail, and kayak. His ease with math translated into a love of poker and bridge, where he was both a patient teacher and an avid player. A fierce patriot, Tom led dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence. He served on multiple boards of directors, including Habitat for Humanity (Collier County, FL), the Red Cross (both national and local), as well as Bolduc Park (New Hampshire).
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon; his daughter Lauren and husband David; his daughter Beth and grandchildren Hugh Thomas, Margaret, and Winston; his son Benjamin, wife Teresa and grandchildren John and Clare; his son William and wife Sarah; and, his beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
A celebration of life will occur at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, Naples on Wednesday, April 17 at 10:00 am.
