Thomas L. Moll, 85, of Freeport, IL, went home to the Lord on September 10, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on March 25, 1940 in Spring Valley, Illinois to Thomas and Ann (Powell) Moll, he lived a life of kindness, gentle perseverance, and unwavering integrity.
As a young man he attended Wheaton Academy, graduating in 1958. In 1960 he joined the Army after training at Fort Leonard Wood in the 4th Battalion Company A Regiment. He was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ. As a proud patriot, he reveled in history’s lessons, being drawn especially to the epic saga of World War II, where he admired the courage and resilience that shaped a nation he held dear.
Thomas was the president of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens and was active in the Illinois Cemetery Association. Together with his sister (Dorothy), nephew (Bryan), and son (David), he devotedly managed the cemetery, upholding his father’s legacy with deep respect and commitment. He was a mechanical innovator and had a natural talent for designing and engineering equipment. He was always looking for a better and easier way to accomplish the task at hand. Fellow cemetarians would travel great distances just to see how effective his equipment operated. He found deep satisfaction in keeping the cemetery beautifully maintained for the families that have placed their trust in Chapel Hill. With immense pride, he commemorated our military by constructing the Veteran’s Court of Honor, as a tribute to their heroic service to our country. Additionally, Thomas found great fulfillment in working the land and farming with his brother, Richard, and revered nephew Kirk. He looked forward to being in a John Deere at harvest each fall. As a lifelong entrepreneur, his tireless work ethic and dedication to the family businesses were a testament to the family legacy.
Thomas was a quiet, self-less man with impeccable morals. He carried a profound trust in God, guiding his life, and raising his children, with unwavering devotion and quiet strength. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of 60 years. She was a devoted partner who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges, sharing a love that stood the test of time. He was also survived by his son David Moll, daughter Beth (Mike) Eggemeier, grandson Jacob Eggemeier, great-grandson Brantley Eggemeier, sister Dorothy (Robert) Norton, sister-in-law Mary Lou (Richard) Moll, and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Moll.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at SSM Health at Home Hospice for the exceptional care, support, and comfort they provided. Special appreciation goes to Allysa Pontnack and Laurie Crase Carrillo for their kindness and the deeply personal care that brought peace and dignity during a difficult time.
