Thomas Howard Moon

Thomas Howard "Tom" Moon, of Atlanta, Texas passed away on January 26, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born in Gilmer, Texas on October 20, 1947 to the late Glenn Howard Moon and Bobbey Jean Landrum.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Thuy Thanh Pham; brother, Michael Moon; sister, Sandy Pratt; daughters, Cindy Thu Huynh and Loan Moon; and dog Buddy. He is also deeply cherished and missed by his nephews and nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tom's heart was centered around his family–devoting much of his time and energy into his loved ones, who knew him as a warm, steady presence with a strong, stubborn spirit. He was a writer with many stories to tell. He spent many mornings swimming at Hickam Beach in Oahu, and afternoons on long drives with his motorcycle.

He attended Kilgore High School, graduating in 1967. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for three tours during the Vietnam War. He would go on to become a civilian contractor, returning to Vietnam in 1970, and be one of the last Americans flying out of Saigon. Upon his return, Tom earned an Associate of Applied Science at Brazosport College in 1981. In his long and varied career, he worked as a Patrol Boat Captain for the Marshall Island Police and was a part of the Sheriff's Department of the State of Hawaii's Department of Public Safety. He was a brave, dedicated, and honorable man whose memories will be carried on by his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
