He began his broadcasting career as a DJ at the age of 15 in his hometown of Wichita, KS as Todd Wallace, III (aka TW the 3rd). He spent the next 7 years at KLIF (Dallas), KIMN (Denver), KILT (Houston), CKLW (Detroit in Windsor, Ontario), and KEZY (Los Angeles) before joining KRUX in Phoenix as the morning man in 1970. Within 6 months, he was promoted to Program Director at KRUX beginning his celebrated programming career. In 1972, he was recruited to become the PD to turn around the ratings at KTSA in San Antonio, which he achieved in 4 months. Gary Stevens convinced him to return to Phoenix as the Morning Man and PD of KRIZ. In late 1974, he was called to fix the ratings for KLIF in Dallas/Fort Worth which was quickly accomplished and received national attention in the broadcasting community. This led to the opportunity for him to return to Phoenix as the VP/Programming for KUPD. In 1976, he partnered with renowned sales consultant Ken Greenwood in launching his research company, Radio Index. Under the umbrella of Radio Index, he launched Todd Wallace/Associates. His consulting practice achieved world-class status in the late 70's by advising over 100 radio stations worldwide. He became known in markets across the globe as The Godfather of Radio Research.
In 1983, he owned KZKZ for 3 years in Flagstaff, Az. In 1994, he joined KTAR and KLite as hands-on Operating Manager and Program Director. He was later recruited to become the Director of AM operations for AM/FM Broadcasting (which merged with Clear Channel). This position included programming oversight for KFYI, KGME and KOY. He then became the Operations Manager for KOOL/KMLE/KZON in the valley while also serving as Program Director for KOOL FM. He retired from broadcasting in 2013 while continuing his Radio Index research company. In 2014, after 51 years of mastering his craft in the radio and broadcasting business, Thomas Arthur Mueller was inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Arizona Broadcasters Association under his professional radio name, Todd Wallace.
He is survived by his brother (Rick Mueller), his children (Cherish Forbes, Noel Khan, Anthony Mueller, Brandon Mueller, and Diego Flavio Lamas Medina) and his grandchildren (Stephanie Costantino, Christopher Forbes, Kaelyn Forbes, Malik Khan, Amina Khan).
Todd Mueller adored the cats he had throughout his lifetime. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to your local Humane Society.
