Thomas Deeb Najour

Thomas "Tom" Deeb Najour (84), of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2023 after a brief illness, resulting from a stroke caused by cancer in his brain.
Tom is survived by his wife Mary, and four children and their spouses, Troy, Todd, Tim (Michelle) and Bridget (James). He is also survived by his brother Jerry, sister-in-law Bobbie, and eight grandchildren, Travis, Tabitha, Morghan, Logan, Leah, Mykle, Parker and Eleanor (due in December). In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Blakely, Oak and Isla. Tom was predeceased by his oldest son, Tony, and two siblings, Dan and Mary.
Tom, or as he was affectionately known in his family, Tommy, was born in Atlanta, GA on September 8th, 1939 to Katherine and George Najour. He was the youngest of four children and grew up surrounded by a large community of aunts, uncles and cousins. In his school days, he was a talented athlete, competing in varsity level football, wrestling and track and field, while also maintaining an excellent academic record. His accomplishments on and off the field landed him a football scholarship to University of Florida, where he played for one year before moving home to Georgia and attending John Marshall Law School.
While attending John Marshall, Tom began working as a stock boy at Rich's department store. Tom was a hard worker and gave his all to everything he did. This job was no exception and in time he worked his way up to a buyer in the fabrics department, thus beginning a long and successful career in the retail industry. Over his nearly thirty-five year career, his work took him all across the United States and even overseas. At the time of his retirement, Tom was serving as the President of Modern Woman, a chain of retail clothing stores.
In his retirement, Tom enjoyed spending quality time with his beloved wife, Mary, and their family. Tom and Mary enjoyed traveling, including visits back to their hometowns of Atlanta and Wichita each year. In his spare time, he took up gardening and proved to have quite the green thumb. Tom was a devoted father and Gidy ("grandfather" in Lebanese.) Some of his favorite memories were of the family beach vacations when everyone was able to be together.
Tom will be remembered by those who knew him as a loving, determined, and thoughtful man, with a great sense of humor and an infectious smile. He had a penchant for great wisdom and sound advice that is forever ingrained in those who loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor in the spring of 2024.
