Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Earl Newell, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Old Silver Creek Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Mr. Newell, age 63, passed away late Saturday night, March 2, 2024, at the Merit Health-Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Old Silver Creek Baptist Church.
Thomas Earl Newell, Jr. was born on December 28, 1960 in Mobile, AL to Thomas Earl, Sr. and Troy Langston Newell. A retired Riverboat Pilot with Canal Barge Company, Earl grew up in Silver Creek and graduated from the Monticello High School. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family remarks that he especially enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp on the Pearl River with all of his cousins and also staying at the cabin he shared with his brother. Earl was a member of the Old Silver Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Newell and his nephew, Robert Waye McKenzie. He is survived by 18 nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
