Thomas Nix Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary, Inc. - Willcox from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28, 2026.
Tom was born on January 9, 1973, in Van Horn, Texas, to Bob and Pilar Nix and was raised alongside his brother, Danny Nix. He graduated from Willcox High School, where he met the love of his life, Trina. They were married on April 10, 1999, and built a life rooted in family, service, and dedication.

Before graduating high school, Tom earned the rank of Eagle Scout, a reflection of the values that guided him throughout his life. He attended Pima Community College and the University of Arizona and later graduated as a member of Class 308 from the United States Border Patrol Academy.

Tom dedicated nearly three decades to federal service. He began his career with the United States Border Patrol in Tucson, Arizona, serving from 1996 to 2007, including time with the Tucson Sector Investigations Team. In 2008, Tom and his family moved to Frisco, Texas, where he continued his work in criminal investigations. From 2017 to 2025, he served with the Corruption Review and Investigation Unit (CRIU) under the Office of Professional Responsibility.

In addition to his investigative work, Tom was proud to serve as a driving instructor at the Border Patrol Academy and completed the Department of Homeland Security Criminal Investigators Training Program. He was known for his integrity, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to those he served alongside.

How blessed our family was to have him, and the world really. He was an incredible man, to know him was to love him, have a great cocktail, enjoy a debate or discussion, talk about investigating, hear great stories and history, create memorable game nights, and admire his love for Trina and his boys, Connor and Toren. He was a trivia pursuit, bbq, and cocktail master and history buff. He loved his family and friends, and fully enjoyed life. We are thankful for a lifetime of incredible memories. May he rest in peace, and be remembered for being such a great man and incredible warrior.

Tom is survived by his wife, Trina Nix, and their two children, Toren and Connor; his parents, Bob and Pilar Nix; his brother, Danny Nix, and his daughters, Kyndal Nix and Mikayla Aguilar; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rey and Jonnie Belle Martinez; his sister-in-law, Nicole Mendoza, and her husband, Jason, and their sons, Austin, Easton, and Jaxon; his sister-in-law, Angie Martinez, and her children, Alex Fuentes (wife Ashton Fuentes), Gabriel Fuentes (wife Allison Fuentes), Santana Fuentes, Khloe Diaz, and Jordin Diaz; his brother-in-law, Rey Martinez, and his wife, Shannon, and their sons, RJ and Ryan. He is also survived by extended family members and many cherished friends with whom he loved spending time.

A Celebration of Life will be held in both Frisco, Texas, and Marfa, Texas. The Celebration of Life in Frisco will take place on Sunday, February 22, from 3:00–5:00 p.m., at the home of dear friends, Nicki and Chris Schmid at 5608 Vicksburg Place, Frisco, TX. Please save the date for the Celebration of Life in Marfa, Texas. It will be held on Sunday, July 5, with additional details to be shared once plans are finalized.

Tom will be remembered for his deep love for his family, unwavering dedication to service, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
