Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Roy Norton, 73, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Eastside Baptist Church of Tifton, where he was a member and served as the church pianist. Rev. Keith Norris will officiate the service and his daughter Renee will deliver the eulogy. A private interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 10, 2023 at Albritton Funeral Directors,
Deacons of Eastside Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Tommy was born October 7, 1949, in Mitchell county to the late Charlie Curtis Norton and Ruth Trotman Norton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Sarah Lynell Anderson Norton who died September 23, 2019, his brothers and their wives, Windell and Monica Norton and Charles and Sophie Norton; his brother-in-law, Dewey Palmer. Tommy graduated from Cairo High School in 1967. He attended ABAC then started his career at the Georgia DOT. After retiring from the DOT, he decorated cakes and started working part-time for Albritton Funeral Directors where he remained on staff until his death. Tommy enjoyed staying busy and he always gave 100% effort to everything he was involved with. He enjoyed going to gospel music sings, eating out with friends, playing the piano, and traveling. His greatest joy in life besides serving at his church was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was affectionally known as Opa to his grandchildren.
Tommy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Chip Rutland of Hawkinsville; his son, Scott Norton of Alpharetta; his grandchildren, Analeece Rutland and Zachary Rutland; his brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Jean Norton of Tifton and his sister, Faye Palmer of Pelham.
