Thomas O'Brien Obituary

Lifelong resident of Canaryville, and member of the Canaryville Club, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2024 at the age of 80.
Beloved son of the late Thomas E. O'Brien and Cathrine O'Brien (nee Leahy); loving father of Carolyn O'Brien, the late Gina (Barry) Dever, and Gail O'Brien; cherished grandfather of Ashley (Anna) Sullivan, Gianna Dever, Brianna Dever, Madison, Allison, and Austin and great-grandfather of Nathan and Kaitlin; dearest brother Kathleen (late Robert) Potter; fond uncle of Colleen (John) Boulanger; also preceded in death by the late Maureen Helen O'Brien (nee Shaughnessy).
Tom attended Tilden High School and later became a Truck Driver. His skills as a truck driver led him to knowing the city like the back of his hand. He knew all the short cuts around the city and suburbs, including the family-owned restaurants, which he attended often.
Tom enjoyed attending the OTB and betting on the horses. He was a avid fan of Jeopardy, and a major History enthusiast.
He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, wildly entertaining stories, and contagious laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation at McInerney Central Chapel, 4635 S. Wallace Street, Chicago, IL 60609 on Thursday, July 11, 2024 3-8pm. Funeral Service 6pm. Cremation following in accordance with his wishes.
In lieu of flowers, Tom would encourage you to do an act of kindness for someone special in his honor.
