Thomas Pitman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven on Dec. 18, 2023.
Dr. Thomas C. Pitman, 59, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, in Southaven, MS. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672). A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven. Interment will follow at Desoto Memorial Gardens (630 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672). Pastor Craig Wendell will be officiating.
Dr. Thomas Pitman was born on August 28th, 1964, in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Thomas grew up wanting nothing more but to be just like his father. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1990 while also serving in the Army Reserves as his father did. Thomas continued his education to complete his OB/GYN residency at the University of Louisville in 1994. Thomas spent more than 20 years as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Athens Limestone Hospital before relocating to Southaven, MS to continue his practice at Baptist Medical Group. He was a pioneer in gynecologic surgery and made significant contributions to the field, particularly as one of the first to perform vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) in his region. His ground breaking work allowed women to undergo major surgical procedures without visible scars, with reduced pain, shorter operative times, and less complications than traditional surgical techniques. He trained and mentored physicians while serving as an American Medical Systems faculty member. Thomas had numerous accomplishments in his career, but family was the most important. When Thomas wasn't focusing on his thousands of patients, he devoted his time to his wife Brandy and their wonderful children and grandchildren who knew him as Granddaddy Tom. Thomas was a faithful member of Southpoint Church. He and Brandy were part of the Dinner roulette group and also lead the group Ordinary Men, which was one of his great passions. Other passions that Thomas cherished were diving, golfing, and Alabama football. Roll Tide!
He is survived by his wife, Brandy Prince Pitman of Southaven; his sons, Mark Wroten (Brittney) of Port Lavaca, TX and Brandon Wroten (Tricia) of Osceola, AR; his daughters, Emily McClelland (Zack) of Clinton, MS, Sydney Pitman of Dallas, TX, and Whitney Pitman of Dallas, TX; his sisters, Susan Pitman Dobson (Joe) of Collierville, TN and Emily Gale Moore (Reggie) of Oahu, HI; his brother, Timothy Dobson Pitman of Gainesville, GA; his grandchildren, Chamber Wroten, Lyncoln Wroten, Sailor Wroten, Jordan Price, Landen Stricklin, Briley Stricklin, Lane Ruddick, Oliver McClelland, and Elizabeth McClelland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Dr. Pitman was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Romer Dobson Pitman and Margaret Bowdon Pitman.
After the graveside service, the family asks for everyone to join them for a reception honoring Dr. Thomas Pitman at Coffee Central (5627 Getwell Road; Southaven, MS 38671) from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In honor of Dr. Thomas C. Pitman's service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home the day of the services.
Online condolences may be left on his Tribute Wall at www.colemanfuneralhome.com.

Lord! I just called the office seeing why I had to reschedule my appointment and the nurse told me Dr Pittman passed. The absolute best OBGYN ever. He took great care of me and helped me get my blood pressure on track. I hate to have heard this. Praying for his family.

Not only did I know,
Dr. Pitman while working at Athens Limestone Hospital, he also delivered my baby. He was a kind, thoughtful, and good doctor. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. I will keep his family and all those who knew him in my prayers.

I knew I had a great Doctor when Dr Pitman came to see me before I went in to surgery and he ask me if it was ok if he could pray with me. That was such a moment that I felt the presence of not only my physician but The Great Physician our Lord and Savior. That was something I needed. Thank you for caring.

Dr Pitman delivered my oldest daughter almost 7 years ago. I´ll never forget his exquisite bedside manner. I was so happy he asked to pray with us before our c-section he was absolutely the best doctor I´ve ever had the pleasure of knowing! He will be so missed! He was an amazing family friend as well we are so heartbroken but we know he is where he needs to be. We love you Dr.Pitman and family and we are praying for each of you! Here is a picture of him and my daughter! What a great day!

Met Doc when he first moved to Athens. We were both young men, back then. He was always cordial and open. I appreciated his friendship.
