Thomas Michael "Tom" Powell

Thomas Michael (Tom) Powell, age 70, of Niota formerly of Sweetwater. The avid hunter and fisherman woke up in glory after a very brief but hard-fought battle with vascular dementia. He was brave and knew God was with him all the way and was ready to go home, on Thursday, August 28, 2025. He loved singing for the Lord. Preceded in death by his parents: William Ernest (Bill) and Grace Jones Powell, brother: Richard Warren Powell, sister: Rebecca Jane Duncan, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Henry Luther (Hank) and Lida Lee (Lottie) Gardner. Survivors include his wife of 44 years: Denise Gardner Powell, daughter: Sarah Powell White, grandchildren: Alex and Aleeya White, all of Niota, father of his grandchildren: Bobby White. Sister-in-law: Debra (Joel) Lewis, of Athens. Brother-in-law: Kenneth L. Gardner, of San Antonio, TX., several nieces and nephews and other family members and other church family and friends, special friends: Jerry and Janice Ingram, Rev. Bill and Martha Dawson, Robert (Cotton) Sewell, Johnny and Darlene Morgan, Keith and Judy Pettitt.
