Thomas L. Powell

Thomas L. Powell, 90, died December 15, 2025, at Hester Care Center in Hutchinson. He was born June 7, 1935, in Hutchinson, to Ralph Thomas and Marguerite Lucille (Smithheisler) Powell.

Thomas graduated from Nickerson High School in 1952, and proudly joined the United States Army right after graduation. After serving his country he dedicated his life to farming. He worked tirelessly in the fields, ensuring a successful harvest.

Thomas delighted in solving challenging puzzles, golfing, and bowling with his bowling league. He also loved sitting outside for hours, soaking in the sun and the calmness of nature around him. When he wasn't outside, Thomas was watching any football, basketball, or baseball games, especially if the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, or the Kansas Jayhawks were playing. Above all, Thomas was a family man who loved his family more than anything else in the world. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to all girls and was very proud of it.

On May 25, 1957, he married Connie Lou Aschman at Nickerson Methodist Church, Nickerson. Together they shared over 68 years of marriage.

Thomas is survived by: his loving wife, Connie Powell; daughters, Tammy Graham, Sandy (Troy) Freeman, and Kim (Keith) Brown; grandchildren, Abbie Graham, Erin Graham, Brenna (Dave Boffa) Graham, Kaisha Freeman, Madison (Clayton) Tarpley, and Sydney Brown; great-granddaughter, Evan Tarpley; and sister, Sue Powell.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; grandson, Joshua Freeman; and son-in-law, Steven Graham.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th, Hutchinson. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
