Mr. Thomas J. Powers, of Weymouth, passed away on June 12, 2023.
Tom was born in Brockton on February 5,1956 and graduated from Brockton High School in 1975. He attended Norwich University in Northfield VT graduating in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Management as well as the nickname 'Tex'. While studying at Norwich he was active in the Army Reserves and participated in Rugby, Skiing and Lacrosse. Tom loved Vermont and returned often, eventually becoming a member of the 'Sharpshooters' camp where he enjoyed many occasions over the years with his Norwich brothers.
Tom grew up spending his summers in Megansett on Cape Cod. He was fond of boating, clamming, spending time with family and creating life-long memories of mischief with his friends.
After graduation Tom worked in various sales positions eventually ending up in the investment industry working for Merrill Lynch, where he met his future wife Katherine. Tom most recently worked as Senior Vice President, Investments at B Riley Wealth in Hingham, MA.
As a lacrosse official through EMLOA he thrived being in command out on the fields. He loved everything about the game – the players, parents, coaches as well as the camaraderie of his fellow referees.
Family and friends were of the utmost importance to Tom. He loved entertaining and hosting at home, lighting up his grill, getting the firepit roaring and spinning stories late into the night. His enthusiasm and high energy took the family on so many adventures including sharing his love for the Cape, Vermont and a family favorite being 20+ years of annual camping at Hermit Island in Maine.
Tom had a love of life and a generous nature. He obtained his lobstering license and spent many early summer mornings out on Boston Harbor pulling up traps and sharing his days' yield with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed following his mother's clam chowder and stuffed quahog recipes, yet he never ate any of it himself as he was allergic to seafood. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back or help you out of a fix. Once you met Tom, you never forgot him.
Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Katherine (Davis) Powers of South Weymouth, daughter Emily Galebach and her husband, Peter, of Warren, NJ, daughter Signe Powers and son Clayton Powers both of South Weymouth and grandchildren Alexander and Charles Galebach. He is the son of the late Dr. William J. and Jesse Powers of Brockton, North Falmouth, MA and Punta Gorda, FL. Brother of William Powers and his wife, Nancy, of Vermont and Florida, Richard Powers and his wife, Donna, of Hanson, Andrea Williams and her husband, Steve, of Cataumet, John Powers and his wife, Judy of Marshfield and James Powers and his wife, Sandra of E. Falmouth. Son-in-law of Lenore Davis and the late William R. Davis of Simsbury, CT. Brother-in-law of William Davis and his wife, Debra, of Simsbury, CT, and Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Kim, of Niceville, FL. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
He will be forever remembered and missed by so many.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, June 21st from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So.
