Thomas Wilson Ratterree, a beloved member of the Rock Hill community, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on March 6, 1941, in
Rock Hill, SC, to George and Willie Ratterree, and he spent his entire life in the town he cherished dearly.
Thomas was a kind and gentle man, known for his unwavering generosity. He was the type of individual who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, and he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met-truly, he didn't know a stranger. A jack of all trades, Thomas was skilled in various crafts and trades, which endeared him to many who sought his help and advice over the years.
After serving honorably in the United States Army for six years, Thomas returned home and began his career at Duke Power. His passion for construction soon became clear, and he dedicated himself to building houses, earning a reputation for his extensive knowledge and expertise in the field. Thomas took great pride in his work, and many homes in Rock Hill bear the mark of his craftsmanship.
Thomas was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, where he followed in his mother's footsteps, as she was an active member for many years. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he cherished the friendships he developed within his church community.
In addition to his professional and community endeavors, Thomas had a zest for life that was infectious. He was an avid fisherman, often regarded as the best fisherman in the area, and he found joy in spending countless hours by the ponds. He also enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything that came his way. Thomas loved visiting flea markets and yard sales, where he would often find treasures and share stories with fellow enthusiasts.
Thomas is preceded in death by his mother, Willie America (Hall) Ratterree; his sister, Ruby Irene Ratterree; and his nephew, Donald Lewis Mode. He is survived by his cherished nephews, Chad Collins and Christopher Scott Bechtler, both of
Rock Hill, SC, who will deeply miss their beloved uncle.
