Thomas Edward Ressel, 78, of Chester Springs, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Fieldstone at Chester Springs. He was the beloved husband of Annemarie V. Shain Ressel, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph "Penny" Edward Ressel Sr. and Kathleen Veronica McNeilly Ressel.
Following his graduation from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1965, Tom enrolled in the US Navy in 1966 where he worked on boilers in the Navy fleet for 2 years, before moving to the reserves and being discharged 1971. In 1967, Tom married the love of his life Anne. They went on to have 3 beautiful children, who blessed them with 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Following his service to our country, Tom dedicated his working career to Wyeth Pharmaceutical, acting as the Director of the Graphic Arts department.
If you knew Tom, you knew his heart beat a little faster for anything with a motor. He lived for the thrill of the engine's roar racing his 1992 Pontiac Formula Firebird down the tracks at Cecil County and Maple Grove, lovingly restoring his cherished 1983 Chevrolet C10 pickup, or tearing down back roads in his sleek 1962 Pontiac Ventura. But above all, it was his Corvettes, four of them over the course of his life, that truly held a special place in his heart. He treated them with reverence, only taking them out when the skies were clear and the road was dry, as if even the weather had to be just right for something so treasured. Tom's love for the open road extended to the waters as well. For many years, he found peace and joy cruising his Sea Ray along the quiet bends of the Chesapeake, the hum of the motor and the ripple of the waves, his perfect symphony.
Yet, for all his passion for machines, it was his family that fueled his soul. He was a steady presence at ice rinks, soccer fields, and volleyball courts cheering loudly, always proud. His calendar was filled not just with events, but with moments that mattered: road trips, games, celebrations, and quiet conversations.
Tom was known for his thoughtful nature and willingness to listen. He offered advice with sincerity and spoke with quiet wisdom. Tom shared a sincere and unique love for his brothers, who will miss him deeply. In the final years of his life, his devotion to caring for Anne was a testament to the depth of his love: quiet, constant, and unwavering.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his daughter, Lisa Kane and her husband Brian; his son, Ryan Ressel and his wife Sara; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Ressel; two brothers, Joseph Ressel (Carol) and Robert Ressel (Donna); a sister-in-law, Eileen Ressel; eight grandchildren, James, Brandon, Zac, Carson, Victoria, Audriana, Leighton and Lucas and by two great grandchildren, Colton and Annabelle.
He was predeceased by his son, Steven Thomas Ressel and brother, Dennis Edward Ressel.
