Winifred Ressel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Feb. 27, 2025.
Winifred "Winnie" Ressel, 86, passed away on February 25, 2025 after complications from colon surgery and seizures. Born on December 28, 1938 in Manteno, IL, she was placed up for adoption at age 3 and adopted by Lemuel and Florence Bartholomee, becoming a little sister to Lemuel Everett and Shirley. They moved from the Chicago area in 1946 to San Antonio when Winnie was 8. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1956. Shortly after, she met and married Carlton Link while he was stationed at Lackland Air Force base where he was an Airman First Class in the 4397th Flying Squadron on August 24, 1957. She had two sons, Karlton and Charles, before his untimely disappearance January 1962 while flying over the Bermuda Triangle. A widow at age 23 with two young sons, ages 3 ½ and 4 months, she had her strong faith in God that helped her raise her boys until the untimely death of youngest son, Charles at the age of 7 from leukemia in 1969. While left raising Karl on her own, she eventually met and married Ray Ressel in 1983 until his passing in 2009. During those previous years, she worked at South Western Bell, State Farm and then 30 years with USAA. Because of her trials and her strong faith in God, she became a very strong and independent woman while being very activate in her church choir, bible study and her senior groups.
She leaves behind her son, Karl and daughter-in-law, Madelyn Link, granddaughters Stephanie, Nicole, Brittany and Courtney. She was also preceded in death by grandson, Chris. Winnie also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren along with all her many friends that cherished her dearly.
