MSgt Thomas G. "Tom" Rieg

Thomas G. "Tom" Rieg, MSgt, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Born in Spangler, PA on March 10, 1941, he was a son of the late Thomas G. and Olene M. (Conrad) Rieg. Tom proudly served in the Delaware Air National Guard as a fabric worker where he packed parachutes for personnel and equipment. He was well known for his beautiful upholstery work. Tom made his career as a mechanic for the U.S. government.

Tom was active in the ambulance and firehall in Carrolltown, PA, and was instrumental in the rebuilding of the ambulance and firehall building. He was also a proud foster parent to many children over the years. Tom was a long-standing member of the New Castle Moose Lodge, achieving the distinguished honor of receiving The Pilgrim Degree of Honor.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, David Rieg. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Irene (Phillips) Rieg; daughters, Sharren Sailer and Mary Espillat (Gionis); grandchildren, Ellen Lamont, Christopher Lamont, Mary Espillat, and Abby Espillat; siblings, Richard Rieg (Donna), Francis Rieg (Shirley), Joan Davis (Daniel), Peggy McGlynn (Charles), and Imogene Pastorek (Michael); nephews, Richard, Roy, Keith, Patrick, Jason and David; and nieces, Lynnann, Kathy Jo and Lisa.
