In Loving Memory of Thomas Tucker Rogers

Thomas Tucker Rogers, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful friend, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters. Tom faced his eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease with the same lifelong determination that wouldn’t let him quit anything, and with the quiet dignity that came from not wanting to burden others with his struggles.

Born in Trenton, Michigan, Tom carried a deep affection for his home state throughout his life, though he moved to California at the age of 17. In 1969, through his close friend George Sibert, Tom met the love of his life—George’s sister, Sherry L. Sibert. The two were married in 1971, beginning a love story that would span more than five decades. After a brief return to Michigan in 1973, where Tom ran a restaurant in Roseville, the couple moved to Buena Park, California. There, Tom worked for Montgomery Ward, earned his AA degree at Fullerton College and even ran for City Council (and, as Tom said, “lost by only a narrow margin”). In 1974, Tom and Sherry began building a family, raising three daughters who meant the world to him - his proudest accomplishment.

In 1980, the Rogers family moved to Cave Junction, Oregon, where they would remain for more than 40 years. Tom was a hardworking entrepreneur, owning Rogers Floor Coverings. He later worked for the Josephine County School District, eventually becoming the head custodian of Evergreen Elementary School. Affectionately known as “Mr. Rogers” he always had time for any children who stopped him to talk. After retiring, he continued to take on small flooring jobs, enjoyed being a part of the Siskiyou Christmas Tree Farm, served actively at Community Bible Church and helped with the church’s community food bank.

Tom lived a life rooted in faith and service. As a long-time member of Community Bible Church, he was a church elder, Director of the Awana Club and regularly traveled to Mexico to help build homes for families in need—an act of compassion and generosity he deeply believed in. His kindness, fun goofy humor, and gentle strength left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Tom was always up for an adventure. Whether he was kayaking or surfing, exploring a new city with camera in hand, tuning up one of his motorcycles, heading to a classic car show, jumping on a plane or hitting the road to visit one of his girls—he was all in. He had a wanderer’s heart, a deep love for the world and interacting with the people in it.

In September 2023, Tom and Sherry moved to Arizona to be closer to two of their three daughters and their three grandchildren. In these final years, his days were filled with simple pleasures—reading his Bible, hiking through the desert landscapes he loved, exploring art galleries, and cherishing moments with family. As stated by one of his dearest friends, “Tommy lived what he believed and believed what he lived. The world gained from his life and loses from his passing.”

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; their daughters, Denise Rogers-Thomason, Jennifer Rogers, and Laura (Rogers) Morris, along with three sons-in-law, Dan Thomason, Daniel Smith, and Jack Morris. He also leaves behind three amazing grandchildren, Orion and Aaron Thomason and Gavin Smith, who all brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Charles Rogers, many friends and loving family members whose lives were brightened by his loyalty, warmth, and unwavering integrity.

At Tom’s request, there will be no formal service. Instead, those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to do something he believed in and would have smiled about—donate blood, become an organ donor, be outside in nature, or spend time helping someone in need.
