Thomas Joseph Rothe was born September 26, 1951 and went home to be with the Lord July 15, 2024 at the age of 72. He was born in Hondo, Texas to Joseph William and Melba Rose Lutz Rothe. He was raised on the Rothe Ranch north of D'Hanis. He graduated from D'Hanis High School in 1970 where he was one of the co-captains of the 1969 Regional Champion Football Team. He then went on to Texas A&M and graduated with a business degree in 1974.
Following graduation he married Marcy Garrison on August 3, 1974, and began his banking career. He continued in the banking business from 1974-2024. In 1990 he attended Saint Mary's Law School and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1994. He then opened his legal practice in Hondo, Texas and continued to practice until his passing.
Although he was very involved with the banking and legal business, his true passion was ranching and winning at any game he played whether it was rook, pitch, poker, or golf. He also enjoyed helping the Aggies win a football game.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Rothe; brother, August Rothe; in laws, Marcellus and Renie Garrison.
He is survived by his mother, Rosie Rothe; his wife, Marcy Garrison Rothe; daughters, Emily Rothe Stewart (Brian) and Annie Rothe DeKoch (John).
He passed down his strong family history, and love of ranching to his four grandchildren, Claire and Olivia Stewart and Mac and Thomas DeKoch. He is also survived by his siblings and many, many family and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5pm-7pm at the Hondo Methodist Church, 1006 16th St., Hondo, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held at the Hondo Methodist Church, 1006 16th St., Hondo, TX on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Hondo Methodist Church Building Fund or Medina Regional Hospital.
