Thomas Frank Sable, 91, of St. Clairsville, Ohio (formerly of Bellaire) journeyed onward from this life to be with the Lord and his loving wife Doris on Saturday afternoon, November 23, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home where, as a young boy he helped to build. Tom was born February 1, 1933, near the Willow Grove Mine, just outside of Neffs, Ohio, a son of the late Frank (1910-1942) and Rosemary (Freiberg) Sable (1914-2002). He was a grandson of the late Carl (1873-1934) and Barbara (Humpolak) Sable (1879-1969) and late Thomas (1877-1957) and Emily (Stadler) Freiberg (1878-1960). He was a Christian by faith and member of the St. Joe Church of Christ and the American Legion Post 52-Bellaire. Tom was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the 1 st Cavalry Division in the Korean War, stationed in Japan (Aug 2, 1954-July 25, 1956) and in Fort Knox, TN. On July 25, 1956 he was transferred to US Army Reserve Military District at Fort Sheridan, Illinois and was Honorably Discharged on July 31, 1962 with the rank of Corporal. During his Active Duty in the Army, Tom received Commendation Medals for Good Conduct, Expert Rifle M-1, and Sharpshooter (Carbine). Tom worked in the Saginaw Coal Mine and retired from the Ormet Corporation (1959-1984). From September 1984 through March 2007 he could be found helping customers at Bellaire Hardware located on Belmont St. Tom loved being outside working, mowing the fields, growing flowers and trees. Everything that he touched grew healthy and flourished. He was a hard worker, a faithful son, a loving husband, a steadfast father, and a one-of-a-kind grandfather and great grandfather. He was most proud of the family that he and his wife raised and their family accomplishments in life of being good upstanding and honorable families. Tom was honored to be of the Czechoslovakian-Bohemian heritage and on Sunday mornings could be found listening to the Polka Party on the radio. Most recently, this past summer in reminiscent style of his Expert Sharp Shooting days in the Army, he gunned down a wild Ground Hog that was disturbing his garden. Needless to say his shooting skills remained intact. The wild Ground Hog is no longer at the farm and the garden was preserved. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Doris Eloise (Pittman) on June 22, 2024. They were united in marriage on July 29, 1954, at the Shadyside Church of Christ. He was also predeceased by his brother, Franklin Sable at birth. Surviving are his sons: Thomas Liston (Janice) of Bellaire, and Steven Franklin (Tonya) of Barnesville, four grandchildren: Crystal (Travis) West, Shane (Stephanie) Sable, Lauren (Ron) Thomas, Jaclyn Sable (Shamar Hall), and seven great-grandchildren: Ryan, Layla and Jace Weeks, Aaliyah Hall, Sadie and Stella Sable and Elliott Thomas. The family would like to thank the compassionate care givers at Amedisys Home Health Care and Dr. Douglas Midcap for his years of friendship and medical services and the Senior Services of Belmont County. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, Bellaire, Ohio. Inurnment will be next to his wife in the Belmont Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Clairsville, at the convenience of the family.
