Thomas William Schroeder Sr., known affectionately as Tom to his friends and family, graduated to his Heavenly home on March 5, 2026, at his home in Laingsburg. Born on February 21, 1954 in
Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Victor Christian Schroeder and Naomi Caroline Lutz, Tom's life was a testament to the values of hard work, faith, and family.
A devoted husband, Tom married the love of his life, Denise Paulette Brady, on September 6, 1975. Their union, which flourished over five decades, was blessed with two children, Thomas Schroeder Jr. and Anna Schroeder. The joy of his life was further multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Nyah and Romann. Tom's legacy is also cherished by his siblings, Carolyn Gaus, Eileen Grostic, and Victor III (Dianna) Schroeder, who will continue to honor his memory.
Tom's educational journey led him to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University. He dedicated his career to the financial sector, serving his community as a respected banker and financial planner. His professional life was marked by integrity and a commitment to helping others achieve their financial goals. Beyond his work, Tom served as an Elder of Spirit Christ Church in Haslett, where his robust daily prayer life and role as a prayer intercessor reflected his deep Christian faith. He was a strong man of faith, and his spiritual devotion was the cornerstone of his existence.
An adventurer at heart, Tom's love for the outdoors was evident in his many pursuits. He was a gentleman farmer, tending to his chickens, goats, and other animals with great care. His garden was a source of pride and joy, as he nurtured it with the same love he showed his family. Tom's adventurous spirit also soared through his passion for motorcycles and aviation. Throughout his life he owned three motorcycles, relishing the freedom of the open road, and as a private pilot with three planes, cherished soaring the wild blue yonder.
Tom's commitment to health and discipline was reflected in his participation in the DALMAC bike ride, which he completed an impressive 30 times. His regimen in life was as structured as it was spirited, embodying the essence of a life well-lived. Those who knew Thomas would describe him as loving, adventurous, and intelligent. His presence was warmth and wisdom, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ephesians 2:10 says "We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Tom lived these words, finishing the "good works" that were designed by God for him to do. In doing so, Tom left an indelible mark on the hearts of the world at large.
As we bid farewell to Tom, we celebrate a life rich in love, faith, and adventure. A celebration of Tom's life will be announced by his family. Those desiring to make a contribution in Tom's name can direct gifts to Right To Life Michigan.
