Francis G. "Giles" Schroeder, born on January 22, 1943 left this world peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 83. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Giles is remembered as a loving family man whose spirit touched the lives of many.
Giles had a distinguished career as a Chemical Salesman at Shepherd Chemical, where he dedicated many years of his life, contributing to the company’s success with diligence and commitment. His educational journey began at St. Dominic, where he graduated in 1957, followed by proud completion of his studies at Elder in 1961. He continued to excel academically with a bachelor's at the University of Cincinnati, his masters at Vanderbilt University, and MBA at Xavier University, embodying a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Beyond his professional undertakings, Giles enjoyed a rich, fulfilling personal life. An avid sports fan, he held steadfast loyalty to the Elder Panthers, Cincinnati Bearcats, Ohio State Buckeyes and also held Cincinnati Bengals tickets for many years, showcasing his enthusiasm for local sports. He played in the Vetts Golf League for numerous years, where he cherished camaraderie with friends and the joy of the game. Travel was another passion of his, allowing him to explore the world while creating lasting memories with those he loved.
Giles is survived by his beloved wife "girlfriend" of 57 years, Mary "Meg" Schroeder (nee Smith), and their four children: Laura (Jim) Duke, Matthew (Angela) Schroeder, Amy Schroeder, and Julie (Eric) Lanter. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Nicholas (Anja), Nathan (Anna), William, Margaret, Oliver, Mary, John, Grady, Grace, Ally, Lia, Jimmy, Bradley, Reid, Delaney, and Ross—along with the joy of being a great-grandfather to Henry and Rosemary. Giles also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Dave (Diane) Schroeder, Sue (Paul) Schotte, and Joe (Maria) Schroeder, and his dear in-laws: Skip (Jane) Smith, Ollie (Ruth Anne) Smith, Marty (Steve) Williams, Brian (Theresa) Smith, and Kevin (Marsha) Smith, along with many nieces and nephews who admired him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary Schroeder, and siblings Sandra (Pat) Boyle and Jack (Sue, living) Schroeder.
Giles will always be remembered for his fun-loving personality and his infectious laugh that everyone enjoyed. He loved gatherings and parties, playing games, and making fun memories. May his memory and kind, generous heart live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
