Thomas Martin Schutt passed away April 6, 2023, in Knoxville, TN surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born in Mankato, MN on November 14, 1936. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather (Papa.) Anyone who knew him will always remember him by his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral Church. He and his family belonged to several catholic churches in Knoxville where he served 43 years as a Cantor and Eucharistic Minister. He pioneered and volunteered many fellowship activities with adults and youth, as well as serving many years on the Parish Council. He loved coaching his children in basketball and being a spectator in the many sports they played. Tom enjoyed golf, boating, going to sporting events, travel, listening to music and dancing with Barb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Dorothy Schutt, Grandson David, and Granddaughter's Annabelle and Abigail.
Survived and deeply missed by his loving wife, Barbara of 61 years, sons Phil (significant other Barb), Tony (Karan), Rob (Mary) and daughter Jeannie Mishu (Louay) and 9 grandchildren: Ashley, Stephen, Nick, Sam, Mara, Natalie, Sara, Sydney, and Savana, and brother John of Hastings, MN.
He proudly served in the US Army, with 2 years spent in Germany. He worked for 33 years as a salesman for 3M Company spending time in Minnesota, Allentown, PA, Virginia Beach, VA before settling in Knoxville, in 1970. In 1989 they moved to Tellico Village and during that time he went into business with his son, Rob, at S & S Supply, in Knoxville. He retired fully in 2005 and he and Barb enjoyed many years on the lake. After 25 years on the lake, they moved back to Knoxville in 2014.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospice, Amanda and Cynthia, V.A. (Amazing Angels) Nadine, Kat, and Roman, and Right at Home, Joy, Bruce, and Savanah.
Services will be held April 22, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 9:30 with receiving of friends immediately following in the Cathedral Hall at 10:30 where the family looks forward to celebrating his life while sharing many remembrances of Tom. Internment will take place this summer with his family and full military honors conferred by the East Tennessee State Veterans Honor Guard at East TN Veterans Cemetery.
