Sears, Thomas Lee
MECHANICVILLE - Thomas Lee Sears age 81, formerly of Spring Hill, Fla., died on October 3, 2025, in his home surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on August 2, 1944, and was the son of the late George and Helen (Baldwin) Sears. Tom was a graduate of Cohoes High School, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge. A patriot from a young age, Thomas was honored to carry the flag in elementary school events and eagerly enlisted to serve his country as soon as he was able. Until his last days, Tom shared stories about his time in the Navy, and the lifelong friends he gained during those years, the most formidable of his life. Following his service, he entered a career as a merchant marine for Mobil Oil, eventually acquiring the position of Chief Engineer while employed by Dyn Marine in Perth Amboy, N.J. More than anything, he enjoyed his family, his countless friends, and travel excursions with his beautiful bride, Carmen. He loved the Adirondacks, snowy days, crackling fires, and maple "surple." His passion for carpentry and woodworking has been enjoyed by everyone who knew him. He was meticulous, detail oriented, scatter brained, and utterly brilliant. An avid reader, consumer of knowledge, and generous beyond measure.
He is survived by his children, Leslie (Brad) Crandall, Stephanie Rodick and Emily Russom (Matthew); his grandchildren, Jack, Grace and Lilly Crandall, Thomas, John, Olivia and Josephine Rodick, and Ella and Ryan Russom.
Along with his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his sister. Mary Chapman; and the love of his life, Carmen Reiff.
A family funeral service with military honors will be held on October 10, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. A Celebration of Life will follow at Bentley's Tavern, 4 Hemphill Pl., Ballston Spa, N.Y., from 3 to 6 p.m., where friends are encouraged to visit and share memories of our cherished dad.
Along with his fellow colleagues on the New Jersey Responder, Thomas aided New York City during the tragedy of 9/11. He has always carried this experience with him, and held the First Responders and service men and women dear to his heart, so it was his wish that memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation,
T2T.org, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306.
With confidence, the family has placed their trust in the loving care of the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, and they encourage you to view and leave messages on Thomas' Book of Memories, at
