Thomas Sharp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home on Mar. 31, 2026.
Thomas Ogden Sharp, 85, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Tom was born on May 8, 1940, in Des Moines to James Thomas and Gladys Ogden Sharp.

Tom graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1957 and from Drake University in 1966 with a B.S. in Business Administration. During his years at Drake, he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964, receiving an honorable discharge.

In 1966, Tom began a long and successful career with Sears Roebuck & Company. Over the years he served as Personnel Manager in Milwaukee, Operating/Sales Manager in Appleton, Assistant Store Manager at the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, and Store Manager at Pine Tree Mall in Marinette. Tom was known as an enthusiastic and deeply engaged leader who believed that strong relationships with associates at every level were essential to both personal and business success. His approach earned him numerous recognitions, including awards for sales growth, district leadership in customer satisfaction, and a National Sales Award for the holiday season. Under his leadership, the Fox River Mall store was selected as one of the country's ten learning centers.

Tom later worked at Younkers Department Store in Marinette for three years as Human Resource Manager. He remained active in the community, serving on the Chamber of Commerce Retail Advisory Board, the Promotional Advisory Board for Pine Tree Mall, and the DECA Advisory Board in Appleton.

Tom was a light in many lives. He cherished warm, appreciative relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. He could be wonderfully social, fun, and funny, yet he also treasured quiet time at home-especially with his little dog, Scruffy. His interests were wide-ranging: music from many eras, books on Lewis & Clark and the history of the West, model railroading, and fiction. He loved planting flowers, tending birdfeeders, and watching for the chipmunks who came to him for seeds.

A natural athlete throughout his life, Tom continued to play tennis and golf well into later years. He was a devoted fan of the Brooklyn and L.A. Dodgers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Green Bay Packers. His love of games and friendly competition carried on through the generations of his family.

Tom's creativity and humor shone through in his whimsical cards and poems, his thoughtful and beautifully wrapped gifts, and the song sheets he prepared for cousins' gatherings at Shorehaven in Door County. He often laughed about the "questionable antics" of his youth-so much so that even reading Bill Bryson's The Thunderbolt Kid made him squirm.

Tom is survived by his son Thomas James (Molly) and grandchildren Sophie and Sylvie of San Carlos, CA; his daughter Rebecca (Gary) SharpHamlin of Helena, MT; and his sister Sue Sharp Johnson of Oelwein, IA. He is also survived by nieces Kimberly (Chris) Becker and Katie (Jim) Slivovsky; great nieces and nephews Tony (Suri) Becker, Ellen (Sean) Rivard, Timothy (Kaley) Becker, Eric (Claire) Slivovsky, and Leah (Andy Fowler) Slivovsky; nephew John Thomson; his former wife, Deanna Wooldridge Sharp; and cousins Judy (Mal) Thomson, Joann (Gary) Sandquist, and Diann Kildebeck, all of whom were special to him. Tom was joined in later years by his son Timothy (Kim) Ostwinkle and their children John and Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother in law Gus Johnson, his great niece Caroline Thomson, and cousins Jeanne and Kepler Sharp.

Services will be held Saturday April 18th at Iles Dunn's Funeral Home 2121 Grand Ave. Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow the service at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be given to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or to the donor's local animal shelter. Anyone who knows Tom knows that's where his heart is
