Thomas was born in Excelsior Springs, Missouri in 1961 to Everett and Tharon Shirley.
Thomas worked primarily in construction and maintenance. For fun, he loved spending time in his workshop and playing in the yard. He was an avid football fan who rooted for the Green Bay Packers. He often remarked that they needed to do their homework to win the game.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gladys Shirley; one son, JD Kilgore; one daughter, Malinda Schell; one grandson, Nicolas Diffey; and 4 brothers.
Gladys has so many fond memories of Thomas that it was difficult to pick one, but she enjoys telling about the time when she went to Warrensburg, Missouri to kidnap him and bring him home.
Thomas had a delightful sense of playful orneriness. He would run over Gladys's flowers while he was doing yard work and call it an "Oopsie." He also had a tendency to bend the rules when they played Guesstures and Yahtzee.
One of Thomas's favorite sayings was, "I'm just resting my eyes I'm not sleeping."
