JoAnn (McCulloch) Clevenger, 87, of Excelsior Springs, MO passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Lawson Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church in Rayville, MO. A celebration of life will occur immediately after at 11am.
Mrs. Clevenger was born Wednesday, August 25, 1937 to John and Sarah (Smith) McCulloch. She was the oldest daughter of 6 children. She married Larry Dean Clevenger November 2, 1958 in Lawson, MO. She and Larry lived happily in Excelsior Springs in a home they built together their whole lives. They had 3 children Jerry, Carla, and Cathy. Cappi was their final addition to the family. They enjoyed raising their 3 girls and looked back fondly on all of their antics.
JoAnn loved spending time with the grandkids. She was a constant in their lives. She always had a bowl of treats out for them, spoiled them while they were with her, and then waved them goodbye until they rounded the corner of the street where she could no longer see them. JoAnn spent 25 years serving lunches to students and staff at Excelsior Springs High School. She loved cooking and interacting with the students. This created many friendships and you would often hear a former student come up and share their life updates with her. She loved hearing all the news and would celebrate with each person. Her coworkers were special to her and she enjoyed their company. Her hot rolls are legendary along with her pumpkin bars and butterscotch pies.
When JoAnn wasn't at work, you could find her bowling. She and Larry bowled in several different leagues over the years. After bowling, she enjoyed a night out at the casino. She had a knack for winning. No one could keep up with her once she was on a roll. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah McCulloch, husband - Larry D. Clevenger, infant son - Jerry D. Clevenger, brothers - Chuck McCulloch and Jimmy McCulloch, and sister in law- Peggy Stafford.
Survivors include daughters Carla Voigt, Cathy (Bryce) Strong, Cappi (Rusty) Lawrence, Grandchildren Josh Voigt, Brandon (Britney) Voigt, Devin (Cody) Schneiter, Tyler (Helena) Strong, Ryan Strong, and Hailey Darnell. 14 Grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Brother Tommy McCulloch, and sisters Mary Herman and Helen Voigt.
