John Delbert Shores, 86, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away on July 13, 2025. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Lawson at 1:00 PM. Cremation under the direction of Hidden Valley Funeral Home.

John (J.D.) was born on August 10, 1938. He was the oldest of two sons born to Lawrence and Marthalene Shores. He graduated from Union Star High School and lived in northwest Missouri his entire life. He married Jo Ann Petree in November 1969 and they made their home in Lawson.

J.D. enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending winters in Sun City, Arizona over the past few decades. J.D. had a long career as a route salesman for Continental Baking Company. He, along with his wife, owned and operated Lawson Super Mart for nine years beginning in November 1981. They also owned and operated JJ's Cafe in Lawson for approximately two years in the late 1980s. JJ's Cafe was particularly known for their successful Shrimp Nite on Friday evenings. J.D. & Jo were also principals in establishing the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lawson during the late 1980s. They also built and owned Oak Tree Apartments in Lawson during the 1980s. In 1990 J.D. Shores built Lawson's first laneway home. This home style was cutting edge at that time and it was modeled after a popular trend started in Canada in the early 1990s.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Shores of Fayetteville, one son, Randy Shores of Savannah, MO, and two stepsons Lindell (Linda) Petree of Fayetteville, and Don Petree of Lawson, MO. Three grandchildren, extended family members, and

many friends also mourn his loss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of NW Arkansas. They have been a very helpful non-profit that relies solely on contributions payable to Circle of Life. Their mailing address or website below may be used for contributions:
