Tom proudly served his country after being drafted into the United States Navy, completing two combat tours of duty in Mekong Delta, Vietnam from 1970–1973. Following his military service, he attended college for Business and Accounting and earned his two-year degree in 1975.

Tom worked for Cass County Highway Department from 1974–1976 before moving to Duluth, where he worked on the ore boats for U.S. Steel from 1977–1981. He returned to Cass County Highway Department from 1982–1984, and in 1985 began his long career with the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Tom dedicated 32 years to the NDDOT before retiring in 2017.

On March 31st, 2007, Tom married Julie Ronning. Together they shared a full and joyful life. Tom especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, riding his Harley, spending time at the lake, and being with family. He adored his dogs-Ozzy, Charlie, and Lucky-who were truly "his boys."

Tom will be remembered for his humor, his hardworking spirit, and his unwavering love for his family.

Per Tom's wishes no service will be held. Memories can be shared and viewed here.
