In 1960, after graduating from Coshocton High School, he moved to Florida with his family, making south Florida his permanent home. During the Vietnam War, Tom served overseas in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1972.
In his lifetime Tom had several careers, including serving as an auxiliary police officer for the city of Hialeah, as a lineman for the Bellsouth Phone Company, and as a salesman for Askland Electronic Components and the KSM Electronics Company. He often said his position as a funeral director was his most rewarding career.
Tom was a practicing Catholic and served his church community in many leadership roles. Throughout the years he served as the head usher, president of the men's club, and chairperson of the annual church country fair.
He loved to dance to rock and roll music. He was a good singer and could harmonize with everyone. He enjoyed all kinds of music, and his favorite singer was Barbra Streisand.
