Thomas M Sofka

Tom Sofka passed away on November 25th while recovering from health challenges at age 89.
Tom was born in 1935; he was raised in Carteret and Perth Amboy, NJ by his parents, Michael and Edith (Dowling) Sofka. Upon graduation from high school he entered the Navy where he specialized in coding, stationed in Hawaii, Guantanamo Bay, and Okinawa.
He returned to civilian life and entered Fairleigh Dickenson University, where he met his future wife Joan (Richman) Sofka to who he was married for 20+ years while beginning a career in transportation and warehouse management in NJ and Georgia.
Tom and Joan lived in Carteret, Colonia and Clark, where they raised their two children, Jeff and Bonni, who live in New Jersey. He was especially proud of his 4 grandchildren, Jamie, Michael, Jack & Will, and his two great-grandchildren Irie and Ostara.
Tom most recently resided at Glen Courts in Glen Rock, NJ, where he was beloved as an active member of the community, founding a Men's Group, Poker Group and his unofficial car service taking friends to doctors appointments.
He was an avid Jazz fan, a harmonica player, and enjoyed seeing the greats live, including the Newport Jazz Festival, Les Paul, Tommy Emmanuel and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Tom was a big football fan, he was dedicated to the New York Giants, who he saw win two Super Bowls in person with his son Jeff.
