Thomas Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Jun. 9, 2025.
On June 1, 2025, Thomas Francis Stevens passed away in Towson, Maryland.
He is survived by his loving sister Charlene Noppenberger, wonderful cousins Donna, Diane, Dom and Douglas Pape (godson) and their families.
Also survived by his wonderful friends, highlighted by his brothers from other mothers and his sisters from different misters.
Tommy was born in Baltimore in the early winter of 1954. While most babies cry at birth, knowing my brother, he came out laughing. One of the funniest people I have ever known, his humor was honed by a steady diet of tv cartoons, newspaper comic strips, and a Saturday matinee at the Hippodrome Theatre where he witnessed firsthand a performance by The Three Stooges at age 8. His phrase of "Pick out two" rattled in our home for months! Tom graduated from Dulaney High School, did attend college but decided the Liberal Arts meant he had the ability to be liberal as to attend the classes. That issue didn't quite work out.
The majority of his employment centered around food, from selling produce at Valley View Farms "Are these oranges 6 for 39 cents?", "No ma'am they are 12 for 78 cents". Early employment of flipping burgers at the White Coffee Pot Jr., working at Vinny's Beef & Beer and Ocean Pride enlarged his circle of friends. While some have passed, many of them are still his dear friends.
Outside of his work, he enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Orioles fan. As this memorial is NOT A COAT & TIE AFFAIR, and my brother is being buried in his Orioles clothing, he wanted everyone attending to wear their O's tee shirts, too, at his viewing and funeral.
While my brother was a person of faith, it deepened over the years after our dad died in November 1984, Tommy decided to move back in with our mother for a year or so while she acclimated to her new life pattern. He never left. When the three of us discussed it, mom put her hand on her hip and told him "If he lived here, he was taking her to church on Sunday!". His response was to put a hand on his own hip and tell her "You're going to the O's game on Saturday night with me!". From the age of 30 when he moved in with her in late 1984, to when she passed in January of 2015, it was the mom and Tom show. His living with her and giving up his entire adult life in the process, gave her an extended busy, active and more fruitful life.
My brother was a person of faith and action. Via the produce business, he helped feed people for decades. With that in mind, and knowing that flowers wither and die, in lieu of flowers, we encourage anyone inclined to consider making a contribution to the Maryland Food Bank. /mdfoodbank.org
The details of how to do that are:

2. Click the donate options button and select "dedicate this donation" then select a dedication type. Complete Tommy's name in the second box and then click done

I hope all of you will be able to join me in celebrating a well-lived, enjoyed life. Share the laughter and stories that surrounded him for years.

Sincerest condolences to all of Tom's family and to his closest friends, and thanks for the lighthearted thoughts in Tom's obituary. I was one of Tom's cohorts when we were trying to find a better future ahead of us instead of the backroads to what was then known as Essex Community College. Quite often, the car would detour into an East Towson game room known as "Fun City" where we would use all of our available quarters toward our liberal arts intellectual development. Yes, Tom always had a great sense of humor, and he would always be quick to see the funny side of something before anyone else noticed. Going into the food service business for his career was a smart move for Tom as so many people benefitted from his knowledge and skills. Rest in Peace, Tom, and we'll all hope for a good winning season by our favorite Birds -
