Hoffman Funeral Home and CrematoryThomas P. Swartz, 73, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at UPMC West Shore.
Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late William A. and Anna M. (Otto) Swartz and the husband of 31 years to Cheryl (Kimmel) Swartz.
Thomas was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #1299, Carlisle.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Thomas loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State athletics and watching NASCAR, even racing when he was younger. But his #1 hobby was watching his grandkids play sports.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dustin Swartz (Kristi), of South Carolina, Jason Swartz (Melissa), of Carlisle, Amanda Swartz Meek, of Newville; his six grandchildren, who called him “Pappy Tombo”: Hunter Swartz (Madelyn), Aidan Swartz, Carson Swartz, all of Carlisle, Brady Swartz, of Maryland, Rachel Swartz, of South Carolina, Morgan Meek, of Newville; his sister: Karen Bender (Edward), of Delaware as well as his brother: Stephen Swartz (Sharon), of Everett.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service 2:00 pm Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 1:00 pm. Interment will follow the service in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Thomas’ name may be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
