Thomas L. Taylor of New Philadelphia died peacefully early Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House after a short period of declining health. He was 73 years old. Born August 20, 1952 in Akron, Ohio, of the late George L. and Evelyn F. (Frankhart) Taylor, Tom was the younger of their two sons.
Tom was a lover of classic rock music all his life. His passion and enthusiasm led him to manage several record and music stores in Akron, Chicago and Dover before opening his own store in downtown Dover in the mid 1980s, filled with his own prodigious collection of albums. In later years, he made many friends working with local manufacturers as a skilled electrical expert. He was a man who offered his help and services to anyone in need. At home Tom enjoyed working on many projects around the house, and every year he enjoyed growing asparagus, tomatoes, herbs and snap peas.
He loved spending time with his wife, sons and granddaughters, enjoying grilled chicken at the dinner table. In his free time he enjoyed movies from the era of Hollywood’s Golden Age and campy horror movie genre. Riding dirt bikes with his sons and best friends was always time well spent. He was a lifelong fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
Tom will be dearly missed by his wife of over 45 years, Jennifer (Coutts) Taylor; brother, Ronald (Patricia) Taylor; children, Michael Taylor of New Philadelphia, and Brian (Erin) Taylor of New Philadelphia; granddaughters, Aubriana, and Alexandra Taylor; maternal aunt, Norma Frankhart; loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, and Keith Kerch and Joseph Hunka along with his many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet guests on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia where Father Jeff Coning will lead a service celebrating Tom’s life beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
