Daniel Heter

Daniel E. Heter, Sr., 83, of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia after a sudden illness.

A son of the late Elmer J. and Olive K. (Edie) Heter, Daniel was born August 12, 1942, in the family home at New Philadelphia. On March 24, 1962, he married the former Norma Rector, and together they have enjoyed almost 64 years of marriage.

Daniel worked as a machinist at Gradall for 43 years before his retirement. He was always a dedicated worker. In his free time he helped neighbors and could often be found in his garage working on small engines. For many years he and Norma would go dancing on Saturday nights. Dan was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church of New Philadelphia. He was also a longtime volunteer at the Tusky VFW and with Tuscarawas County United Way.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Norma; children, Scott (Barbara) Heter of New Philadelphia, Julie (James) Davis of New Philadelphia, Daniel (Lori) Heter, Jr. of Dennison, and Chris (Michelle) Heter of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Kristina (Brent) Wheeler, Celine (Zach) Moser, Tessa (Joshua) Moser, Tisha (Dale) Rufener, Brandon Heter, Brooke Heter, Brennan (Crystal) Heter, Brianna Heter, and Chayse Heter; great-grandchildren, Ivan, Dominic, Olivia, Daniel, Colton, Daisy, and Theo; sisters, Marilyn Otte, and Carlene Grahm; and brothers, Fred Heter, and John Heter.

He was preceded in by his parents; and infant son, Timothy Eugene Heter; and brother, Wayne Heter.

The family will greet guests on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastors Randy Stull and Chuck McRobie will lead a funeral service in the funeral home chapel beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Sharon Moravian Cemetery.
