Thomas N. Tinley

Thomas Norman Tinley, 82, of Oakton, Va, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Inova Loudoun Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Wilmer L. Tinley, Sr. and Marion E. Tinley, and by his beloved wife, Valerie. Thomas is survived by his daughter, Pamela Kelly (Michael), of Ashburn, Va and his son David Sholtis (Dawn), of Smithfield, PA. Grandchildren include Jacob, Nicholas, Alicyn, Andrew, and Ashlyn. He is also survived by his brother, Wilmer (Bill) Tinley, Jr. (Claire) of Arlington, VA and his loving nieces and nephews.
Thomas was born in Arlington, VA. He earned his Masters in Engineering from George Washington University. He worked as a mechanical engineer in shipbuilding for the United States government for 46 years.
When not hard at work in his chosen profession, he enjoyed cars, motorcycles, and running. Thomas also enjoyed trips to the mountains of West Virginia and was an avid biker. Thomas was well-liked by everyone. He was involved in the Berryland HOA as their treasurer for many years. He was also treasurer for Vienna Aquatic Club where he and Valerie built many lasting friendships. As his daughter grew up, he was an ever present coach, swimming official, and supporter in all her endeavors. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and beloved dog, Bentley.
Viewing will be held at the Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, Va. 22180, from 11-12:30 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Va.
