Thomas "Tom" A. Heady, a devoted husband, loving father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at his home in Elwood, Indiana. Born on June 30, 1942, in Elwood, Thomas lived a life defined by hard work, service, and deep love for his family.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army from November 1962, until his honorable discharge in October 1965. During his military service, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, a distinction of which he was deeply proud. His dedication to service continued throughout his life.
Following his military service, Tom spent many years working as a laborer in the automotive industry at Delco Remy Anderson. He was also a longtime member of the Alexandria Eagles Aeries #1771, where he enjoyed fellowship and camaraderie. In his leisure time, he found great joy in fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and happiness and allowed him to enjoy the outdoors.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Heady; his daughters, Andrea (John) Lundy of Alexandria, Merlynn Haines of Danville, Illinois, and Lisa (Tommy) Jones of Sparta, Tennessee; his brothers, Robert Heady and Fred (Marcel) Heady; and his stepsons, Tony (Tammy) Moore, Keith (Brandi) Moore, and Derek Moore. He also leaves behind several cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will forever treasure his memory.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl "Oscar" and Vera (Atwood) Heady; his first wife, Arlene (Walsh) Heady; his brothers, William "Bill," Donald Elwood, and George "Shorty Dean" Heady; his sister, Patty Sue (Heady) Slaton; and his son-in-law, Jack Haines.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th, from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, Indiana 46001. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, 876 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, Indiana 46001, with military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW Post #5782 Honor Guard.
Thomas A. Heady will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
