Thomas “Tom” L. Swank, 83, Stillman Valley, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 19, 1941, in Racine, WI, the son of Lyle and Maxine (Marker) Swank. Tom was a graduate of Freeport High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Ottawa, KS and his master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University. He married Naomi Bullock in Cobden, IL on September 1, 1962. Tom began his career as a Respiratory Therapist at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI and later served in materials management positions at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS, then Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY, and after that Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. Then in his retirement, Tom served as the coordinator of purchasing for the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network. Tom enjoyed model railroading and traveling to many state capitals to study their history.

Survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Naomi; his children, Grace Ellen (Ed) Traum, Scott Swank, Robert (Lisa) Swank and Kimberly (Eric) Neevel; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Liza) Traum, Aaron (Jenna) Traum, Katrina (Tim) Wier, Kelsey (Alex) Arntzen, Zoe and Gunnar Swank, Alex Neevel, Caleb (Jessica) Neevel and Hannah Neevel; 9 great-grandchildren with 2 more expected in October.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Maywood Evangelical Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Rd. Rockford with Pastor Gary E. Kniseley officiating. Burial in Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 IL 2, Oregon, Il 61061 or to the Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St. Rockford, IL 61102.
