Darryl Mims

Darryl Mims, 68, passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2026, at his home in Rockford, Illinois.

Born January 9, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles and Lillie (Sallis) Mims, Darryl attended East High School in Rockford and later graduated from Julian High School in Chicago. He went on to attend the University of Northern Colorado and the College of Southern Idaho on basketball scholarships, showcasing his skill on the court and commitment to the game. He spent most of his working years with Valspar Paint Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.

Darryl was an avid sports fan who especially loved his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He enjoyed following games, talking sports, and sharing his enthusiasm with others.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Angela Jeffries and Alexandria Mims; brother Antonio (Wendy) (Mims) Mensah; sister Katrina Mims; sister-in-law Dawnna Mims; nephews Jathen Allen and Tyler Mims; and niece Alexis Mims. He was preceded in death by mother Lillie Mims; father Charles Mims; and brother Wayne Mims.

He had special friends throughout his life-Maurice Threadgill, Russell Pope, and Ira Matthews-as well as many family members and friends who cared deeply for him.
